2021 September Luncheon Willowbrook Manor

Since I was hired as the new superintendent in late February, I have met with various members of the Sedro-Woolley community and visited all our schools. In all my conversations, I found everyone very welcoming and filled with a very strong sense of community and pride. Driving around the area, I often find myself in awe of just how beautiful it is. What a special community to call home! My husband, David, and I are buying a house in town, and we are looking forward to joining the community and putting down roots here. I hope to meet and connect with you as I attend various school and community events and activities.

Our academic mission in Sedro-Woolley School District is to ensure that all students graduate with the knowledge and skills needed for future learning and success. As I do my best to build on the legacy of beloved former superintendent Phil Brockman, I intend to center the work of the district on this mission. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve a district that is deeply invested in every student who walks through its doors. 

During my first year as superintendent, my goal is to learn all about our district and community, listen, be visible and engaged, and build relationships that promote a culture of collaboration and open communication. My entry plan details how I will spend my first year listening and learning. To the extent possible, no significant changes will be made during my first year. I will build on what I learn during my first year to collaborate with others in developing a shared vision for the future.

The plan for the new school year is to bring all our students for in-person learning every day, which I am very excited about. Those who wish to remain in virtual learning may engage in our online Alternative Learning Education (ALE) program by enrolling in the Sedro-Woolley Virtual Learning Academy at this link. As a district, we are committed to providing all our students with engaging and rigorous learning experiences in a safe and supportive learning environment. We will build on the lessons we learned from the past year and celebrate the resiliency that sustained us through such a trying time.

I am just now beginning my tenure as superintendent, but I truly am looking forward to working with all of you for many years to come. A recent graduate of Sedro-Woolley High School wrote me a note not too long ago. She said, “I hope you enjoy our little town and the family we have.” I can say with confidence that I already do.
