Mayor Jill Boudreau and the Mount Vernon Arts Commission are inviting the community to join them for the unveiling and dedication of the “Valley of Our Spirits” sculpture at the Skagit Riverwalk Park on April 28th at 2:00pm.
This grand sculpture celebrating the diversity of our community is the most recent addition to the City’s collection of public art; and was created by artists Jay Bowen, Lin McJunkin and Milo White.
The 20-foot-tall sculpture is a metal and glass depiction of, “a bear chasing 17 various creatures up a totem to an awaiting eagle, as otters and ravens look on.” It will be installed on the Riverwalk Plaza, at the top of West Gates Street.
The dedication ceremony will include speakers, music, and a Native American blessing. Following the ceremony, refreshments will be served and there will be an opportunity to meet the artists.
