Come spend your Black Friday with us by opting outside! #OptOutside was started when REI gave their employees Black Friday off with the belief that this time would be better spent spending time outside to get involved with community members and local events. We are participating this year. Instead of spending time in stores, come plant trees with us! We are going to be at our Big Lake Wetland location this year. The Big Lake Wetlands Conservation Area preserves some of the largest remaining intact wetlands in the Nookachamps watershed. This property is the last non-developed land on Big Lake and is home to many species of trout, waterfowl, deer, coyote and amphibians. Since this area is flooded for the much of the year, we will be paddling to the area on kayak or canoe. If you would like to participate and you do not have a canoe or kayak, we have a limited number available to borrow. Please let us know if you would like to borrow one, and we can see what we can arrange. Remember your PFDs! We will be planting trees to discourage invasive yellow flag iris from returning. Do not worry about possibly getting wet and muddy, because we can guarantee that you WILL get wet and muddy! Rainboots or waders are highly encouraged. Please dress for the weather and bring extra clothes to change into afterward as we will be planting rain or shine. For more information, and to RSVP please visit skagitlandtrust.org.
