Kelly's Point Work Party

Kelly's Point is one of the most beloved beaches and wildlife areas in the region. The property includes iconic Yellow Bluff, a view well-known to the ferry-riders and boaters entering and leaving Anacortes. Kelly’s Point provides a long stretch of beach access to the public for walks, bird watching, and agate hunting. It contains mature coastal forest along more than 3,000 feet of undeveloped marine shoreline. The immense cliffs of Yellow Bluff contribute an exceptional amount of sand and gravel to island beaches, including the beach of the San Juan Preservation Trust’s Peach Preserve. Rated as “feeder bluff exceptional” by marine scientists, this property is considered ecologically important in Northern Puget Sound. Kelly’s Point provides forage and nesting areas for countless bird species. A colony of Pigeon Guillemot nests in holes in the sandy bluffs. The upland forest provides roosting, perching, and foraging habitat for a variety of raptors such as Bald Eagle, Osprey, and Cooper’s Hawk, as well as migratory song birds. Come help care for this special piece of shoreline! We will be pulling invasive species from the bluff and doing some work in the parking area to make more accessible for everyone. SLT will provide tools and training. Please email us at volunteer@skagitlandtrust.org with any questions. Carpooling is encouraged. We will organize a carpool from the ferry terminal as the event gets closer.
