Sedro Woolley Kretschmer Stewardship

This easement protects more than 14 acres of forest and pasture just northwest of Sedro-Woolley. The forest of 70 to 90-year-old trees may never be harvested. The conservation easement was originally donated in August, 1999. This property is a mixture of forest, pasture and riparian habitats that provide forage and cover for many species, including: deer, coyote, and other mammals, hawks, owls, woodpeckers, and songbirds. There is cover for resting, nesting, and hiding from predators or the elements. Understory shrub species, and other vegetation and insects throughout the forest, provide food. There are several trees in some stage of decay, including snags appropriate for nesting and cavity dwelling animals. 300 feet of Willard Creek also runs through this property. Willard Creek is designated habitat for coho and chum salmon, and steelhead trout. Logging and development are threats in the immediately surrounding areas. Currently, the surrounding lots are being developed into home sites. This work party will focus on clearing and redefining the fence line so we can stop invasives from moving onto the easement property and establish our boundaries.
